In the final event of the 2025 New Hampshire Senior Games — cornhole — a spirited team of eight residents from The Baldwin came ready to compete. Participants, ages 70 to 82, competed in both singles and doubles cornhole events, bringing home an impressive collection of medals in hues of gold, silver, and bronze.
Residents Richard and Noel Paschke rallied their neighbors to form “Team Baldwin.” Richard, age 82, is a National Senior Games gold medalist in multiple archery categories and has previously represented Maryland and Montana at both state and national levels. “Competing gives focus to training and provides meaningful rewards for the physical and mental preparation required in the Senior Games,” he said.
In doubles competition, after trailing in round one with a daunting 1-20 deficit, team members Dr. Joyce Lemkin and Noel Paschke staged an extraordinary comeback to win the round, ultimately winning all four and securing the gold medal.
“We were honored to bring the gold medal back to The Baldwin,” Paschke shared. “But what made it even sweeter was the come-from-behind win. Life often reflects sports. As seniors, we’ve all experienced our share of ‘1-20 comeback moments’ — and with perseverance, we can still excel and win.”
Team Baldwin’s success didn’t end there. Richard Paschke and Gerry Miller captured the silver in doubles, while Steve Davis and Ellie Denault earned the bronze. In singles competition, Richard Paschke also secured the silver medal.
Now in its 38th year, the New Hampshire Senior Games continues to provide opportunities for senior athletes across the state. While 2025 is a non-qualifying year for the National Senior Games, Team Baldwin hopes their achievements will inspire others to participate in next year’s national qualifying state games. The National Senior Game Association hosts the biennial National Senior Games, which brings together over 11,000 participants ages 50 and up to compete in more than 25 sports.
